DeepSeek has made a 75% price reduction on its V4-Pro generative AI model permanent, sharply lowering the cost of inference and escalating price competition in the artificial intelligence market.
The move affects the market for frontier-class AI models, where inference costs are a central factor for developers and enterprises deciding which systems to use at scale. By locking in the reduction, DeepSeek is applying additional pressure on competing providers.
The pricing shift is expected to increase pressure on rivals such as Anthropic and OpenAI to reassess their own pricing strategies. Lower inference costs can make generative AI applications more economical to run, particularly for products with heavy usage or large numbers of queries.
DeepSeek’s decision underscores how competition in AI is moving beyond model capability alone and increasingly includes the cost of deploying those models in real-world services.
