The global race to develop quantum computing technology intensified as the U.S. Department of Commerce announced Letters of Intent to provide $2 billion in federal incentives under the CHIPS and Science Act to nine U.S. quantum computing companies, while PsiQuantum launched a new Asia-Pacific Test & Validation Lab at Griffith University in Australia.
The U.S. incentives are aimed at accelerating American leadership in quantum computing. The package includes major funding for two quantum foundries, GlobalFoundries and IBM, along with support for seven quantum computing firms.
In Australia, PsiQuantum’s new facility at Griffith University is designed to cool, test and measure photonic quantum chips. The lab features powerful cryogenic systems and is intended to accelerate development of utility-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computing.
Together, the announcements highlight the widening international competition around quantum technologies, with public funding, industrial capacity and specialized testing infrastructure becoming central elements of national and regional technology strategies.
