Hungarian lawmakers have voted overwhelmingly for the country to remain a member of the International Criminal Court, reversing an earlier decision by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s government to withdraw from the tribunal.
The parliamentary vote means Hungary will continue to recognize the jurisdiction of the global court. It also prevents the country from becoming the only European Union member state outside the ICC system.
The decision marks a significant reversal in Hungary’s position toward the court. The International Criminal Court is a central institution in global efforts to prosecute grave international crimes, and membership carries both legal and diplomatic implications for participating states.
