Britain and Poland are scheduled to sign a new defence and security treaty on May 27, 2026, when Prime Minister Keir Starmer meets Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in London.
The agreement is intended to strengthen cooperation on border security, combat organised crime and deepen defence industry collaboration. The planned cooperation includes the joint development of mid-range air defence missiles.
The treaty comes as European governments respond to rising security concerns, including hybrid threats such as arson, sabotage, cyberattacks and espionage, much of which has been attributed to Russian intelligence across the continent.
Poland has recently reached similar agreements with France and Germany, placing the planned UK-Poland treaty within a wider European rearmament and security coordination effort.
