The UN Security Council is scheduled to hold an open briefing on Ukraine this afternoon, May 28, after Kyiv requested a meeting over what it described as a “new level of Russian aggression.”
Ukraine has reported large-scale Russian missile and drone attacks against multiple cities, including Kyiv. Its account includes the use of nuclear-capable Oreshnik missiles.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appealed to Washington for additional Patriot air defense munitions, arguing that Ukraine needs them to counter the intensified Russian attacks.
The Security Council session will place the latest escalation before the UN’s main peace and security body at a time when Ukraine is pressing for more international support and air defense capability.
